"WOMBAT" WEB COMIC NOMINATED FOR SHEL DORF AWARD
The web comic "Wombat" by Kalamazoo artist Neil Bryer has been nominated for a Shel Dorf Award in the category of Web Comic of the Year.
The Shel Dorf Awards are connected to Detroit Fanfare (www.detroitfanfare.com), an annual comic book convention held on the east side of the state. This year's convention will be held at Cobo Hall on September 24 &25th with the awards ceremony taking place on September 24th at the Renaissance Center inside the Marriott. Awarding of the actual prize is completely based on fan vote through the website
www.sheldorfawards.com/vote.
This is the first such nomination for Bryer's web comic which has been posted weekly on its own site (www.wombatcomic.com) since June 4, 2006. The strip, which just posted its 200 episode, features a wombat named Neil and his human friends John, Paul and Amanda, is partly based on its creator's own life.
"I was very surprised when I opened my e-mail and found notification that I had received the nomination," says Bryer. "I've been campaigning for votes, but the competition is made up of quite a few very popular web comics. I hope to win, yes, but am more than happy just to be nominated alongside them."
Bryer will be attending both days of the Detroit Fanfare convention to promote "Wombat".
